Filming for the ads has already started, with reports saying that the Spice Girls, who are reforming for a world tour, will poke fun at themselves and will each recieve £1m for their troubles.
The Daily Mirror reports a source saying: "Tesco is one of the tour sponsors, and has been desperate to get them in an ad. They will be sending themselves up, in the tradition of the old Jane Horrocks ads, and viewers should find it funny."
Tesco's creative account is handled by The Red Brick Road. The supermarket's campaigns draw heavily on celebrity input, be it in the form of voiceovers by the likes of Bob Hoskins, Graham Norton and Julie Walters, or with turns in front of the camera by stars including Martin Clunes, John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg and Martine McCutcheon.
Tesco's approach to the Spice Girls comes as their mid-1990s pop rivals Take That appear in menswear ads for Marks & Spencer.
The Mirror reports that the Tesco ads are likely to be released around the same time as the Spice Girls' new 'Greatest Hits' album comes out on November 12.
