LONDON - Retail giant Tesco has launched its first social networking site, aimed at people taking part in or supporting Cancer Research UK's Race for Life.

The supporters' network, at , will give women taking part in the 5k events organised by Cancer Research UK an opportunity to connect with fellow supporters.

The website was created by Tesco's PR company Launch Group and will give Race for Life participants and their supporters a way to discuss their experiences and pass on the impact gained from taking part in and supporting the races.

Alongside advice on health and nutrition, training tips, conversations between fans and guest blog posts from Race for Life ambassadors like Paula Radcliffe the site will allow participants to share their reasons for taking part.

Josh Hardie, head of corporate responsibility at Tesco, said: "Raising sponsorship and training for these events takes up lots of time and energy – and the women who do it need the support of their partners, friends and families.

"Our new Supporters' Network means participants or supporters can all now go online to get help and advice from people in a similar situation – or seek expert tips from the likes of marathon star Paula Radcliffe."

The site will not carry ads and was devised as part Tesco's partnership with Race for Life, which the supermarket has been involved with for nine years.
