Tesco expands number of in-store phone shops

LONDON - Tesco is planning to open more in-store phone shops in a bid to challenge Carphone Warehouse's market leadership.

Tesco expands number of in-store phone shops

The supermarket, which is set to announce its annual results this week, hopes to open more than 100 shops selling mobile and landline packages in its largest stores by the end of next March, with this then rolled-out into all 210 of its Tesco Extra stores over the next three years.

The decision follows Tesco's announcement that it plans to open 30 in-store bank branches by the end of 2009, offering savings accounts, insurance policies and credit cards.
