Tesco boosts Clubcard TV offering with ITV drama

Tesco's foray into being a media owner continued this week with news that the retailer is to host a number of classic ITV dramas on its ad-funded digital channel, Clubcard TV, following a deal with ITV.

The agreement will see selected episodes of classics including 'A Touch of Frost', 'Above Suspicion', 'Cracker', 'Inspector Morse', 'Lewis', 'Miss Marple' and 'Prime Suspect' added to the new ad-supported service for Clubcard members.

Also included are a raft of new cooking shows including episodes from 'Hell’s Kitchen USA', 'Britain's Best Dish', 'Eat Yourself Slim with Rosemary', 'Great British Food' and 'Marco's Great British Feast'.

Classic programmes from feel-good shows 'Cold Feet' and 'The Darling Buds of May' will also be added to the service under the terms of the deal.

This week's partnership follows Tesco, the UK’s largest supermarket, landing a deal with BBC Worldwide for its cookery, comedy and drama programmes last month.

The deal include popular programmes such as 'Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps', 'Goodness Gracious Me', dramas such as 'Blackpool 'and 'Carrie’s War', and children’s dramas including 'Stig of the Dump' and 'The Secret Garden'.

In total, more than 160 TV episodes will be available to 16 million Clubcard members via the ad-supported service.

Tesco is the first retailer in the UK to reward its customers with their own online movie and TV service.

Clubcard TV has been developed by the team behind the Tesco movie and TV service blinkbox and is supported by targeted advertising based on users’ shopping habits.

Tesco has signed deals for TV episodes and movies with producers including Aardman, Endemol and Warner Bros, as well ITV and BBC Worldwide.
