Teletext taps into the mobile market

LONDON - Teletext is to give mobile phone users access to its information service with the launch of a new mobile service Teletext Mobile.

The service is set to give consumers instant access, via a Wap-enabled mobile phone, to editorial content on Teletext's digital TV service. Content will include news, sport, entertainment, weather and travel information as well as holidays, games, ringtones, competitions and betting services.

Teletext Mobile will be available across all mobile phone networks, and is the latest service from Teletext, which provides a digital and analogue TV service in addition to a number of websites.

Sean Grant, director of commercial text at Teletext, said: "Launching a mobile internet service is a natural progression for Teletext as our digital and interactive services continue to grow and attract wider audiences."

The latest initiative is part of the company's drive to expand its digital and interactive services.

Teletext mobile will also be open to advertisers, with opportunities across mobile platforms, including banner advertising and sponsorship of the service.

Grant added: "Our editorial content has a huge following and the launch of Teletext Mobile ensures it is instantly and readily available to information-hungry mobile users -- whether they are looking for the latest news, sport or travel information or even this week's winning lottery numbers."
