
The move comes just a day after the paper swung the axe on its managing director Hugo Drayton, making way for a series of changes at the group, including long-talked about editorial changes at the Daily and Sunday titles. Today's media section in the paper is to be the last.
A spokesperson for the Telegraph said that there were a range of "exciting developments" lined up to replace the media section, but that nothing could be disclosed at present because of the current nature of the business.
It is understood that Daily Telegraph editor Martin Newland has moved media editor Tom Leonard and entertainment correspondent Matt Born to the main news desk and that any media news or gossip will be used in Saturday's paper, which also has a showbusiness and arts page.
Other specialist areas of the paper are also to be downgraded, so that the paper can rather play to traditional strengths of international and City news among others.
The Times' media section was similarly downgraded this year following the departure of long-time columnist Ray Snoddy.
The media veteran has since taken a position at The Independent, which recently increased its media coverage with Media Weekly, designed to directly take on the Guardian's Media Guardian on Mondays.
