Teens to run Penguin youth books site

Penguin is handing over complete control of its new youth site to a team of teenagers.

The team, aged between 13 and 18 years old, will write and edit all content for www.spinebreakers.co.uk, as well choosing and approving the titles to feature on the online book community for teenagers.

This is the first time the publisher has handed over editorial control of a Penguin-branded and Penguin-funded site.

Anna Rafferty, online marketing director at Penguin, said: "It's a brave thing for us to do, but for the site to be credible and valuable, we had to give control to the teens. We don't want Spinebreakers to be just a Penguin mouthpiece."
