Barley joins from Iris Manchester where he was director of digital. Previously, he worked at Code Computerlove as an account director and has worked on clients including Hertz, Kellogg’s, Wonderbra and Adidas. He will replace former head of digital Neal Andrews, who left the agency in April last year.

Barley will report to Dean, who steps up to executive creative director from the role of head of creative development, a position he has held since joining the agency in May. Dean replaces Peter Lewtas, who left the agency last month "for personal reasons", a year after joining the agency.

Barley will work alongside head of design, Danny Bickerton, and will be responsible for enhancing the digital output of the agency, with an emphasis on creating integrated digital campaigns.

Fergus McCallum, TBWA\Manchester chief executive, said: "James brings with him a fantastic wealth of experience and will play a key role in strengthening the agency’s digital offer."
