TalkSport for TV debut

Kelvin MacKenzie’s TalkSport Radio has confirmed plans are on the table for a television version of the brand on the Sky Digital platform.

The news came as The Wireless Group, owner of TalkSport, unveiled a massive increase in profits across the group of 108% to £1.2m for the six months to June 2004.

Turnover at TWG increased by 29.8% to £19.2m on the previous period and by 19.9% on the same six months in 2003, said a statement from the company.

Meanwhile, revenues at TalkSport also soared by 18% in July and August following a massive £1m injection of income during the Euro 2004 football tournament in Portugal.

MacKenzie has made no attempt to hide his desire to launch TalkSport as a television station, hinting in a recent Media Week interview that it was an area of the industry the company would be interested in exploring.
