Taco Bell, which sells Mexican fast food like burritos and tacos, is to open a restaurant at the Lakeside shopping centre in Essex in June this year.
The chain last attempted to establish itself in the UK in the late 1980s, opening stores in London and Birmingham which were subsequently closed in the 1990s.
In the US the company claims to serve more than 35 million customers a week from more than 5,600 restaurants.
The opening of the Lakeside store marks the first in a number of planned UK store openings by Taco Bell, which is owned by US giant Yum!, the parent company of KFC and Pizza Hut. Further store openings are planned in UK retail parks and city locations over the coming year.
Nick Dawson, general manager of Taco Bell UK & Europe, said: "The UK is a very important market for Taco Bell. This is a major step in our international expansion, and Lakeside is just the start of our exciting plans in this country.
"There's a gap in the quick-service market for a fresh new concept like ours, and I'm confident that our wide range of exciting new menu items at unbeatable prices will prove very popular over here."
Taco Bell specialises in value for money meals and its speed of service.
