
The new-look paper will not carry any new sections and the option of taking any of the sections compact is thought to have been ruled out.
It is understood, however, that the paper will reorganise its content line-up and introduce new headline and body text.
The relaunch follows that of sister paper The Times, which last week updated its Times 2 supplement and shifted the leader column to page two of the main newspaper.
The changes have been headed by editor John Witherow and an internal design team.
The Sunday Times, which previously began printing on Wednesdays, can now be printed entirely on Saturdays, allowing it more flexibility in redesigning pages.
