STV launches range of hyperlocal sites

The Scottish broadcaster STV, the channel three licensee in Scotland, has unveiled an online and mobile hyperlocal initiative called STV Local with broadband provider Plusnet as its launch sponsor.

STV launches range of hyperlocal sites
STV Local is a network of hyperlocal websites for Scottish towns, cities and communities and will be rolled out across the whole of Scotland during the rest of 2010 and into 2011.

Today pilot sites for Airdrie, Bellshill, Coatbridge, Cumbernauld, Motherwell and Wishaw have gone live with information for local communities including news, events listings, business directories and information from community groups.

The new sites will offer a number of digital advertising opportunities: in addition to headline and other sponsorships there are banner and MPU ads as well as classified listings.

The sites will be supported by outdoor advertising in each local area to raise awareness.

Rob Woodward, chief executive of STV, said: "This new hyper-local initiative is a significant part of STV’s digital strategy, which is a key growth area for the business.

"STV has a very strong relationship with communities across Scotland. Through STV Local, we are building a digital platform which will inform people and enable them to share, engage and connect with their community."

STV will seek to work with content partners and community contributors to encourage user-generated content, in addition to that provided by the STV editorial team.
