Chrysalis will be hoping that the newly named 'Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston' will close the gap on Johnny Vaughan's Capital FM show, which reached 1.13m listeners in the latest set of Rajar figures in February.
Coleman, who has presented the breakfast show for six years, and Scott came in second, but their audience dropped to 748,000 as Kiss 100 FM's 'Bam Bam Breakfast Show' added 90,000 listeners to hit 711,000, closing in fast on Heart.
Theakston, who was announced as Coleman's successor in February, has a much higher celebrity profile than Coleman, having recently presented on Channel 4 celebrity athletics series 'The Games' and hosting the Oscars coverage from LA for Sky News.
He has also dated 'Nip/Tuck''s Joely Richardson and All Saint singer and 'I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!' contestant Natalie Appleton.
Theakston, 34, also has previous radio experience, with a show on BBC Radio 1 between 1999 and 2002, as well as working on the then GLR and Radio Five Live.
Chrysalis will be supporting the new show with a heavyweight marketing campaign.
Francis Currie, programme director at Heart 106.2, said: "The new breakfast team has been working extremely hard in rehearsal and some serious fun has been had along the way. The new 'Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston' will see a whole load of fresh, fun and exciting new content."
