STA Travel lines up seven agencies for DM pitch

STA Travel has called a pitch for its UK direct and integrated marketing account after a review carried out earlier this year.

The youth travel agency, which is also repositioning its brand, has drawn up a shortlist of seven unnamed agencies, with a final decision expected later this month.

New and incumbent agencies are known to be involved in the pitch, which is being managed by STA marketing director Gillian Campbell.

At present, most of the travel company's marketing activity is direct response or lead generation work. However, STA is planning to increase its above-the-line branding activity following a 'back to basics' repositioning and also to promote its new Blue brand, which promotes deals that are exclusive to the travel shop.

Andy Hibbert, internet and business development director at STA, said the move is designed to establish the company's brand values more firmly.

"There will be more work on branding and communicating the wide range of experiences and products we have," he said. "But our core market is still students and the under-26s and we still want to communicate with them."

Hibbert said STA was looking to fully integrate its marketing, and hoped to have digital, offine and media planning working together closely.

Agencies currently working with STA include Heard Design and Guava online search, although much of the travel company's work is produced in-house.

STA was founded in 1979 and now has a presence in 85 countries worldwide.

It has 65 branches in the UK.
