The move is the latest example of a leading media figure quitting for one of the global digital media owners. Bertozzi joins in January, with responsibility for direct sales, programmatic and international business.
Bertozzi has worked at Publicis since February 2010. He joined as managing director for EMEA at VivaKi Nerve Center, rising to president for global clients at VivaKi in 2015.
Bertozzi had a previous stint at Publicis from 1996 to 2008, when he began as a TV buyer at ZenithOptimedia and worked his way up to head of digital in 2007.
Spotify recruited Primesight’s Chris Forrester to UK country manager in May.
Chris Maples previously held the role of vice-president of Europe but departed in 2014.
Spotify has been valued at $8bn and is set to be profitable by next year, according to a shareholder who spoke to Reuters last week.
Brian Benedik, Spotify’s global head of ad sales, said Bertozzi would bring "a fresh perspective" because he has "a great wealth of expertise and insights gained over many years in the agency world".
Bertozzi said he was excited "to join a company that is working at the intersection of data, tech and incredible content" and described Spotify as "a leader in its space".
