LONDON (Brand Republic) - Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced its European PlayStation web site, re-named Scee.com, is to be relaunched in November to coincide with the launch of PlayStation 2.
Sony would not commit to an exact launch date for the site, previously www.Playstation-europe.com, but it confirmed yesterday that the much-anticipated console is due to launch on November 24 in all EU countries, Switzerland and Norway.
Nick Parker, Sony鈥檚 director of European strategic planning, would not reveal how much the re-launch was costing the company exactly, but said that so far the cost was between £9m鈥£18m 鈥渁nd it鈥檚 not finished yet鈥.
The site, designed by Icon Media Lab, serves as a jump-off point to 14 country-specific sites with 21 different content versions. Icon鈥檚 international project manager Magnus Helander explained: 鈥淥ur brief was to design a site that could allow the interpretation of a global brand on a local level.鈥
The central site is hosted on a web server based in London, which serves content to each of Sony鈥檚 European territories. Each territory has a customised front-end version with local content, managed by local editors and marketing managers. Content includes news, movies, cheats and downloads.
The second phase will build on the community aspect of the site, with chat rooms, bulletin boards, and other features still under wraps, said Helander. No roll-out schedule has been announced for the second phase.
