The ad in Wipeout HD, was the first in a deal with ad network Double Fusion and was removed yesterday after gamers complained it doubled loading times between levels.

The high definition video ads, distributed via the PlayStation Network, were appearing in the racing game's loading pages across Europe and the US.

Sony was quick to remove the offending ad, saying future ads will not interrupt gameplay.

"The ad has been removed from Wipeout HD and we are investigating the situation to ensure that any in-game advertising does not affect gameplay. This will apply for all future in-game ads as well," a spokesman from Sony said.

Double Fusion developed the HD video ads which its claims contextually match the game's design. It is also providing standard definition ads to supplement the HD ads. The ads will be updated with new creative as campaigns develop.
