Throughout the Games' duration (7-23 February) 12 live sites will offer a place for the general public to gather to watch the Olympic competitions, as well as a place to enjoy an on-stage cultural and entertainment programme.
It will include children's educational and entertainment activities scheduled for the mornings, as well as performances from artistic groups each evening.
Famous athletes, past Olympians and Russian winners and medalists of the 2014 Games will also be honoured on stage at the live sites.
More than 800,000 spectators are expected to visit the free sites during the Games. Five are based in Sochi and a further seven are located throughout Russia.
Russian telecommunications company Rostelecom, a general partner of the Games, has been selected as the technical partner of the live sites.
Organisers have also been developing and executing the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad, which launched in 2010. Each year the programme of cultural events has focused on a different theme including cinema, theatre, music and museums.
The events programme has included concerts, festivals, shows, exhibitions, and art installation.
Today (6 February) the seventh International Winter Arts Festival will commence and run until 20 February marking the end of the four-year Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad. It is being directed by Yuri Bashmet, Olympic Games Sochi 2014 ambassador and Russian musician.
The festival will include concerts, exhibitions, literary evenings, film screenings, and workshops. Bashmet will also present world-famous opera stars Barbara Fritolli, Erwin Schrott and Ian Bostridge, pianist Denis Matsuev, and violinist Viktor Tretyakov as part of the programme.
Events within the International Winter Arts Festival will be held in the Winter Theatre in Sochi, the Organ Hall of the Sochi Philharmonic, the Galaxy Hall in Krasnaya Polyana and at other sites around the city.
