David Folb, chairman of Lashings World XI, said: "Development of the game in the UK is close to the heart of our club and I hope that the Lashings World XI/Slazenger partnership will encourage as many people as possible to pick up a bat and play the game for themselves and inspire youngsters to consider a professional career in cricket."
The Lashings World XI has been up and running for 10 years and includes cricketing greats among its players past and present, with the likes of Sir Vivian Richards, Sachan Tendulkar, Shoaib Akhtar, Shane Warne and Brian Lara all having stood an innings for the club.
The 2006 line-up includes Phil DeFreitas, Clare Connor, Chris Lewis, Chris Cowdrey from England and Richie Richardson, Jimmy Adams, Gordon Greenidge, Phil Simmonds of the West Indies.
Along with other players from Australia, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Pakistan, the team aims to promote the sport through appearances at clubs, schools, charities and at corporate events.
Robin Gibson, Slazenger head of marketing, said: "Through the matches Lashings play each season, thousands of pounds is raised for worthwhile causes and through the sponsorship Slazenger is delighted to be able to contribute to these efforts and to the joy Lashings give cricket fans all over the country."
