Miniweb offers brands and broadcasters the chance to utilise both its TV Key and Key & See technology. TV Keys are memorable words, brand names or generic words that translate to numerical codes for use with TV remote controls, providing direct access to the brand’s website, which has been adapted for TV screens.
Miniweb will charge businesses to register and use TV Keys, that can then be placed and used in advertising and promotion.
Key & See is a function made specifically for broadcasters and channel owners. It allows viewers to access the interactive content available via the relevant “Key” while keeping half of their screen on the programme they are watching.
Ian Valentine, Miniweb’s chief executive, is the former technical allowances director for Sky New Media and patented the technology. Miniweb has been selling its service for the last six weeks and has already signed up several broadcasters who have never made use of interactivity before. It will first launch on Sky and then hopes to move on to other platforms.
