The 90-minute film, which will air 24 hours after its US debut on November 30, follows the pop star for three months, during the recording and promotion of her latest single, 'Womanizer', and sixth studio album, 'Circus'.
In it, she talks about her recent high-profile meltdown, which saw her shave off all her hair, visit rehab and psychiatric units, go through a messy divorce from Kevin Federline and lose custody of her two children.
Production company Radical Media gained exclusive access to the star to make a programme that purports to give a rare insight into her life. It shows her at work in the recording studio, on a music video shoot, backstage at the MTV Video Music Awards and at home in Louisiana.
Spears said: "I've been through a lot in the past two or three years and there's a lot that people don't know.
"I'll sit there and I'll look back and, I'm like, 'I'm a smart person, what the hell was I thinking?'"
"I wanted to make [the documentary] because I started to feel like I wasn't being seen in the light that I wanted to be seen in. This is an opportunity to set the record straight and talk about what I've been through and where I'm headed."
