Sky uses holograms for Selfridges in-store HD campaign

LONDON - Selfridges customers will be met by a 'Minority Report'-style interactive shopping experience promoting Sky's High Definition television service, where like Tom Cruise in that movie, they will be able to interact with a series of holographic images.

The interactive shopping experience has been created by wireless marketing technology company Betaminds, with its Interact FX software, which the company said would allow users to walk through a series of hologram-style images that respond to human touch.

Betaminds said its Interact FX technology would invite customers visiting Sky HD's point-of-sale installation in Selfridges to walk through a series of interactive projected images, allowing them to move their hands and feet to advance a high definition video frame by frame.

The company claims it is the first time the technology has been used in a UK department store, and said Interact FX can be marketed across a range of sectors, including theme parks and the hospitality industry, where it could be used for interactive menus.

Kenneth Siber, co-founder of Betaminds, said: "With Interact FX, images can be projected onto floors, walls or any surface, and can be made to cover any area -- from a table top to large floors, from long walkways to entire walls."

Betaminds, which was founded by Siber in 2005 with Thomas Jensen, also used its Heliodisplay technology earlier in the month to publicise a Darth Vader-inspired promotional campaign for Diageo's Smirnoff Experience music nights.

The firm's Heliodisplay was also commissioned by production company Hanrahan Media for Sky's 'Voderman's Big Brain Game' programme in April.
