Sky Sports ties with m-pay for footy sites

Sky Sports Online is to use Vodafone's m-pay digital content micropayment service on eight of its managed football web sites, including Manchester United's (www.manutd.com).

The system, which allows Vodafone's UK users to charge digital content valued between 5p and £5 directly to their mobile phone bill, will also be introduced to Sky Sports-managed sites for Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Southampton, Everton, West Ham, Sunderland and Leeds United football clubs.

Via a deal with billing specialist iSTRAT, which powers the service with its Volition micropayment system, visitors to the sites will be able to pay for premium content using either their credit card, Vodafone's m-pay product or online payment service Splash Plastic.

The premium service will allow users to watch highlights, goals and interviews.

They will also be able to watch weekend games on Mondays.

Neil Martin, business development director at Sky Sports, said: "The new packages will enable supporters across the world to access the best content online and watch bespoke products for their individual football clubs whenever and wherever they want."
