Sky will become a founding partner of the O2 arena alongside other companies such as Adidas, BMW and Coca Cola.

It will spend an undisclosed six-figure sum as part of the deal and will be the exclusive brand partner within the entertainment venue's TV, home broadband and telephony ad categories.

Sky said the O2 arena had a unique position as a leader in out-of-home event entertainment and currently welcomed millions of visitors each year.

Sky said it would use the reach of The O2 to flag its brand, content, and services to the public, as well as working with AEG, operator of The O2, to bring certain events from The O2 to the screens of Sky TV customers.

Sky expects to broadcast 02 events by early 2010.

As well as programming, the tie-up will allow Sky branding opportunities. All the screens in the arena will be converted to HD and be used to demonstrate Sky+HD.

The O2 opened in June 2007 after AEG turned the former Millennium Dome into a music, sport and entertainment arena.
