Sky scores with Champions League coverage

LONDON - Sky's live Champions League coverage of Manchester United's crushing defeat at the hands of AC Milan pulled in a bumper audience of almost 2m viewers.

Audiences of more than 1m viewers on a multi-channel station are rare and as such are considered highly prized.

United travelled to Milan for the second leg of the Champions League semi-final with high hopes after winning the first leg 3-2. In the end, United lost the game 3-0 on the night and 5-3 on aggregate.

Sky's coverage pulled in 1.7m viewers and a 10.7% share of audience, according to unofficial overnight figures.

On the terrestrial platform, it was business as usual for BBC One's 'The Apprentice'. The business-themed reality TV series pulled in 5.5m viewers and a 22.8% share of audience as ex-Army lieutenant Paul Callaghan became the seventh contestant to get fired in week six.

In the same slot, Channel 4's popular property design series, 'Grand Designs', pulled in 3.6m viewers and a 15.7% share of audience.

ITV dominated the schedules in the early evening 7-8pm slot through back-to-back episodes of Emmerdale and Coronation Street.

Emmerdale pulled in 6.5m viewers and a 37.3% share of audience, while Coronation Street pulled in 8.2m viewers and a 43.2% share.
