Sky launches mass-participation cycling events

LONDON - Sky has announced a series of mass-participation summer cycling events.

Sky launches mass-participation cycling events

The Skyride events support Sky's partnership with British Cycling and will take place at four cities this summer.

The rides are part of Sky's attempts to get a million people cycling by 2013.

The Mayor of London's Skyride will take place on Sunday 20 September and was formerly known as Sky Sports London Freewheel.

Sky will also host a series of local events from the end of the month.

The launch was promoted by cyclist Vicky Pendleton, Elle Macpherson and DJ Gethin Jones.

Earlier this year, Sky announced the creation of a new professional road-cycling team which will take part in the Tour de France.

It is believed Sky had hoped to tempt Britain's best cyclist Bradley Wiggins to the team, but the rider is set to stay with his current team, Garmin Slipstream.
