The broadcaster currently runs Sky Arts and Sky Arts HD, but recently acquired Sky EPG number 270 from Performance Channel Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of pay-TV channel operator Eicom.
From 20 October, Sky will air contemporary programming on Sky Arts 1, classical arts programming on Sky Arts 2, while Sky Arts HD will broadcast content from both.
Sky said it now had enough new arts content to broadcast 36 hours of arts programming a day, with the autumn season covering subjects ranging from Francis Bacon and Edward Seago, to Iggy Pop and Moby, plus operas, and a nightly concert featuring legendary performers from Johnny Cash to The Who.
Sky Arts added that it would invest in further commissions and acquisitions.
In October, Sky Arts 1 will broadcast an eight-part tour of Italy with Suggs' Italian Job. Also featured will be Art Rocks, and Tim Marlow on Francis Bacon.
Sky Arts 1 will also introduce a number of regular strands, including a live music strand, "Centre Stage", at 9pm from Monday to Saturday. A "Backstory" documentary strand will be stripped Monday to Friday at 11pm, while Sky Arts' "Icons" will be aired at 8pm.
On Sky Arts 2 there will be a new series of operas, Vanessa-Mae's Classical Top Ten, and Brian Sewell's The Naked Pilgrim.
Sky Arts rebranded in March 2007, when the channel's name was changed from Artsworld.
