Sky and Chelsea to hunt for next big footie star in TV show

LONDON – Sky One and Chelsea Football Club are teaming up to find the next big football star for a new £2m reality series, 'Football Icon'.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will judge 12 aspiring young footballers to decide which lucky winner will receive the top prize -- a contract with the Premiership team's academy.

Over eight weeks, the show will whittle down the 12 trainees until only three remain in the final, with Mourinho and his academy training staff picking the best player.

As well as following the search for the next big Chelsea star, the series will aim to give an insightful look at how one of the club is run with interviews from players and Chelsea training staff.

Trials begin next month with regional heats in London, Manchester and the West Midlands. Participants must be between the ages of 16 and 17.

The show is due to air on a primetime slot on Sky One this autumn.
