The channel is a joint venture with The History Channel and A&E Television Networks and will be carried on Sky digital in the UK and Ireland.
The History Channel, a joint venture of A&E and BSkyB, will manage and operate the channel in the UK, along with joint venture The Biography Channel.
Steve Ronson, senior vice-president at AETN, said: "The History Channel UK was the first international launch for AETN in 1995, and we are very pleased to see the venture expand to a third channel in the market.
"AETN has been a long time leader in the justice programme genre, and I believe viewers will respond enthusiastically to the compelling programming that will be offered on Crime & Investigation Network."
A&E is based in the US with offices in London and broadcasts crime dramas including '24', 'Law & Order', 'CSI Miami' and 'Third Watch'.
David Rey, Sky's commercial director, added: "We're delighted to be working with AETN to bring Crime & Investigation Network to the UK and Ireland. I have no doubt that it will be a valuable addition to the high-quality channel line-up available to Sky customers."
