In the ad, created by Bartle Bogle Hegarty, Sir Bobby's face is seen hundreds of times as Newcastle United fans descend on the St James Park ground. He is even seen wearing a dress at one stage and giving a piggy back to a tiny version of Alex Ferguson. Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, also appears in the spot.
Called "managers", the aim of the spot is to link Barclay's expertise in finance with the idea that everyone is a football expert.
A report in The Times this morning says that the epic ad, which has aired for only a few weeks, was always intended to finish on Saturday, but Sir Bobby's sacking makes it unlikely that Barclays could revive the campaign at a later date even if it wanted to.
The ad had been well received, and featured as a pick of the week in 北京赛车pk10 magazine and on Brand Republic.
A spokesman for Barclays told The Times: "It doesn't make that much difference really. The ads were all about big, iconic football figures and Sir Bobby remains one of those."
Sir Bobby was deposed from his role at Newcastle after the team's poor start to the season, with no wins out of four games, and only two points on the leader board to date.
Former England captain Alan Shearer, who has appeared in ads for McDonald's, is being touted as a possible successor, along with former England manager Terry Venables, also no stranger to the commercial world -- he appeared alongside Sir Bobby in a recent ad for Walkers Crisps.
