Single-shot drink sachets vetoed by trade body

LONDON - Sachets of ShotPak, a pre-mixed vodka drink, are being removed from sale because of their similarity to soft drinks, appeal to children and encouragement of rapid and excessive drinking.

Single-shot drink sachets vetoed by trade body

The drink's removal comes after Sally Keeble, the MP for Northampton North, complained to alcohol industry body the Portman Group about ShotPak, which is produced by US company Beverage Pouch Group and imported to the UK by Chilling Rocks Beverages.

The ShotPak range, which is sold in 50ml plastic pouches, comprises four variants: Apple Sour, Lemon Drop, Purple Hooter and Kamikaze. The company's products also include undiluted shots of vodka, rum, tequila and whisky, which are primarily marketed as STR8UP, but feature ShotPak branding.

The independent complaints panel, which operates under the Portman Group's code of practice on the naming, packaging and promotion of alcoholic drinks, decided that ShotPak sachets could be mistaken for soft drinks.
