
Maier joins having run his own communications consultancy for the past two years.
Previously he was marketing director at Jack Morton Worldwide, chief executive of Crown Communications and managing director ICM UK.
"I see my role at Grass Roots as a rainmaker - a catalyst for a number of significant projects both within the agency and for clients," said Maier. "I will also be involved with business development to ensure we are maximising our potential with all clients in all sectors."
Maier will work closely with Grass Roots events division deputy chairman Graham Frazer to lead events projects.
Earlier this month the Meetings, Events and Communications division of Grass Roots announced its results for the 2008-2009 financial year with profits before tax in excess of £1.6 million.
