SiebertHead draws on naval heritage for Somerfield port redesign

LONDON – SiebertHead has redesigned the full range of Somerfield ports with a merchant sailing ship highlighting the drink's naval associations and varying font and cap colours to determine the type.

The designs adopts traditional port language with a merchant sailing ship in a circular symbol to reflect the port's naval heritage.

The four different types of port are colour coded by the cork cap of the lids and the typeface colour. For example, the Ruby port has a ruby dark lid and writing and Tawny port has a brown lid and font.

Paula MacFarlane, creative director of SiebertHead, said: "The new range has all the quintessential design cues of port and yet manages to create a contemporary feel that will appeal to Somerfield's customers."

SiebertHead's other designs include Carlsberg Export beer tap for its Man of the Match trophy in all 31 of the Euro 2004 games last year, and the Somerfield sherry range.
