The Shining acted by pets boosts social gaming numbers

LONDON - A competition for players of online social game Pet Society to recreate famous movie scenes using their virtual pets has helped it land 136,000 Facebook fans.

From the 20,000 entries submitted by the Pet Society community there were 13 winners picked, including a scene from 'The Shining' as best thriller.

Pet Society is free to play on Facebook, MySpace and Bebo with its UK-based maker Playfish making money from selling virtual goods to buy within the game.

Playfish claims that more than 21 million people are playing the game each month on Facebook.
