The digital ads target commuters with the message that one-in-seven children in Britain, including 400,000 in London alone, are trying to escape homelessness or bad housing. Professional child actors are included in the ad, alongside two children that have been residing in poor housing in inner London.
The ad can be viewed on digital posters at Tottenham Court Road, Charing Cross, Euston and Paddington, where commuters will be faced with the images of children banging and pushing the screens in the hope of escaping their misery.
The ads urge Londoners to text 'More Homes Now' to 87085 to support Shelter's call for more social homes for children who are homeless or trapped in squalid conditions. The charity is also calling on the Government to build 20,000 extra social homes each year, including 5,330 in the capital.
Adam Sampson, Shelter's chief executive, said: "We hope these hard-hitting ads will wake London commuters up to the scandal of the one-in-seven children trapped by bad housing and homelessness - 400,000 in London."
The ads were created by creative agency Hooper Galton, which got the ad space for free after winning a competition held by outdoor advertising company, CBS Outdoor.
The ad campaign also includes a mobile phone viral that can be downloaded at the charity's .
