Shell shuns car images with new fuel ad

LONDON - Shell has launched new advertising for its high-performance V-Power Racing petrol with a European television campaign.

The advertisement, created by J Walter Thompson London, has dual branding with Shell's Formula 1 partner Ferrari.

It breaks with tradition by featuring no images of cars or petrol stations. Instead, it uses the Ferrari symbol, a prancing horse, galloping across the sand to the sea and then racing through the surf.

The soundtrack of the ad combines the sound of a female vocalist with the roar of a Formula 1 engine.

The new ad will be shown in central and Eastern Europe, as well as Greece. It was written by Richard Saunders and Peter Celiz was the art director. "Horse power" was shot in South Africa and produced by RSA Films.

V-Power Racing is one of Shell's premium fuels, targeted at people who want more from their cars. It is not available in the UK.
