'Sex' complaints jeopardise debut of Roxxoff brand

The Portman Group (TPG) is likely to scupper the launch of Roxxoff, the pre-mixed spirit drink that claims to contain a herbal aphrodisiac, after receiving four complaints about its web site.

Roxxoff attracted criticism when news of its impending launch leaked last month, because of its blatant associations with sex. A spokesman from manufacturer Lynch Wines was quoted as saying: "Many young people go to clubs and bars to meet people with a view to having sex. We are just helping them on their way."

Though the product has not yet launched, TPG has received four complaints that Roxxoff breaches its Code of Practice, as its positioning suggests sexual success.

TPG will rule on the complaints within a month. Because the product has not yet launched, no complaints have been received about its naming or packaging, so the watchdog cannot issue an alert bulletin asking retailers not to stock the product. However, TPG can adjudicate on the existing complaints.
