The channels are expected to fetch up to £1m. Setanta's administrator Deloitte appointed Canis Media, which was behind launches such as LA Muscle TV and Ocean Finance TV, to handle the sell-off.
The channels to be sold include Setanta News, Setanta Golf, Racing UK, Racing World, and the Arsenal, Celtic and Rangers TV. There are also an unspecified number of unallocated digital EPG channels slots available.
The positions of the channels could be changed to fit with other genres. However, BSkyB rules state that a channel can only be off air for 30 days before it is erased from the EPG.
In 2007 BSkyB said that it would stop adding new channels to its EPG due to memory constraints on many Sky boxes. This had previously fuelled a lucrative market with some slots going for more than £1m. The recession, however, has led to fewer channel launches and prices have fallen.
