Setanta hires AOL's Ryan as first marketing director

LONDON - Sports broadcaster Setanta has appointed AOL's former director of brand marketing, Timothy Ryan, as its first UK marketing director.

Reporting into Setanta's group commercial director Mark Mohan, Ryan's remit includes positioning Setanta Sports as the alternative to Sky Sports in the pay-TV sports market and introducing new acquisition models.

Alongside ITV, Setanta has just secured the rights to broadcast live FA Cup matches and the England team's home internationals. Ryan's key focus for 2007 will be the upcoming launch of 46 live English Premiership games on Setanta Sports from August 2007. 

Ryan joined AOL in 2005 in a newly created role, prior to which he was Orange UK's head of brand and marketing strategy. He has also worked for FutureBrand and Saatchi & Saatchi.
