The Other Voices festival takes place in the 200-year old St James’s church in Dingle, Co Kerry. For 10 years it has attracted the likes of Ellie Goulding, The National, Jarvis Cocker and Rufus Wainwright to its tiny stage.
The annual festival will hold a sister event across the Irish border at The Glassworks in Derry on 8-10 February next year, as part of the celebrations for Derry’s selection as UK Capital of Culture 2013.
A London event will be held in April 2013 in association with The Barbican. The venue is not yet confirmed.
Aileen Galvin, spokesperson for Other Voices, told Event: "We’ve got 10 years under our belts and you’ve got to step outside your comfort zone at some point. It has found its level now and we took it to New York in October 2011. That was a test as to whether it would translate somewhere else, and it did."
The festival has been praised for its intimacy and relaxed atmosphere. Galvin said that this would be maintained for the new events next year. "What makes the event special is the vibe of the people that work on it," she said. "There’s no VIPs and everybody piles in together. A lot of the people who will perform in Derry and London will have done Dingle before and they will try to recreate the same vibe."
The festival will hold its 11th annual event this weekend, and will be broadcast live to other venues in Dingle thanks to its sponsor Intune Networks.
