Secret festival for Clash frontman

A one-off festival in a secret Somerset location has been announced to mark 10 years since the death of Clash's lead singer and guitarist Joe Strummer.

The two-day Strummer of Love festival, organised by charity Strummerville, will commemorate the performer on 17-19 August. The location and transport details will only be revealed on festival tickets.

Five thousand visitors will be able to attend. The first 1,001 tickets went on sale today at a price of £101 to honour Strummer’s first band The 101ers.

The lineup will comprise Strummer’s friends and fans performing tributes to the musician, who died unexpectedly of a heart attack in 2002.

Strummer of Love claims it will be the only major UK festival to handle its own ticket sales, thus avoiding booking fees from agencies. It will also have its own ticket re-sale forum to bypass what organisers call ‘fan-to-fan’ websites, some of which were .

As well as live music, Strummer of Love will host stalls selling fair trade food and Strummer memorabilia, and others promoting arts and crafts, alternative therapies and community activism.
