The Festival Social will take place the first Tuesday of every month, and aims to create a forum for informal conversation among agents, promoters, artist managers, production companies and a wealth of other businesses involved in staging festivals.
The first event is being held at The Social, just off Great Titchfield Street, on Tuesday 6 March. It will feature performances from singer songwriter Ryan Keen fresh from his tour with Ed Sheeran, indie talent Anothers Blood led by Richard Frenneaux of Red Light Company fame, and Radio 1 DJ and AIF co-founder Rob da Bank.
The brainchild of LeeFest promoter Lee Denny, it is open to non-members as well as members and will be free for the first hour and £2 after 8pm. There is likely to be a short hiatus over the summer when festival season kicks in.
Ben Turner, co-founder of AIF, said a regular networking meet will help unite a sometimes "fractured" industry. "Festival Social is a great opportunity to put faces to names, for agents to connect with promoters, for international visitors in the festival world to network with UK counterparts, somewhere to come together, unwind and enjoy great chat over even better music, in the spirit of AIF," he commented.
