The news was announced yesterday (26 March) by SECC chairman Will Whitehorn. Duthie, currently commercial director, will step into the new position on 19 April when current CEO John Sharkey departs the company.
Duthie joined the company in 1984 and took up the position of commercial director in 2008. As well as being responsible for all commercial activity on the SECC campus including sponsorship, he has managed strategic partnerships, joint ventures, acquisitions and disposals, and overseen all group legal matters for the company.
In his new role, Duthie will take full responsibility for the entire business operation of the SECC and SSE Hydro.
Whitehorn said: "The recruitment process for the position of CEO has been a rigorous one with a large number of candidates and lengthy interview process for what is a very sought after and challenging job. Peter has emerged as the best candidate on his own merit and the fact that he has done so reflects the standing of the SECC team in the UK and wider market."
Duthie added: "With the opening of The SSE Hydro, I believe the SECC to be the leading event and entertainment campus in the UK. The business is well placed for a great future, moving from a period of development to the challenge of fully exploiting the assets which have been created. I look forward to being in a position to lead and direct the company at such an exciting time."
