Scouts to help clean up Reading Festival

Organisers of the Reading and Leeds Festival, Festival Republic, have employed local scouts to help clean up this weekend's (28-30 August) Reading Festival.

Each year, an excessive amount of camping equipment and food waste is left behind after the events.

The Reading-based 79th Scouts and Bright Green - a community recycling project - will help clear the festival site, reclaiming any usable equipment and redistributing it to local community groups.

Meanwhile, in Leeds, not for profit organisation Everything's Possible and Re-Work Office Furniture will do the same.

Festival goers at both events will also be encouraged to donate unwanted, non-perishable food at Recycle Exchanges and dedicated donation points around the sites to be redistributed locally.
