The content will be served via the STV Player channel and will launch later this summer.

STV follows broadcasters Channel 4 and Five in signing a deal to make its catch-up service available via YouTube. However, ITV at present has not signed a deal with Google-owned YouTube.

The STV content will be found in the TV Shows section of the site. It will also have its own dedicated channel and will be available to download free of charge.

As part of the deal, a number of STV programmes will be available shortly after TV transmission as a catch-up service, including new shows such as Lorraine Kelly's 'Scotland's Missing Mums' and the second series of hit Australian drama, 'Underbelly'.

Rob Woodward, chief executive of STV, said: "This deal forms an integral part of our STV Anywhere initiative, ensuring that our content can be accessed by the widest possible audience."

"We're confident that through the availability of high-quality unique content, we will extend even further the popular STV brand and our strong range of programming delivered by the STV Player."

Archive on the channel will include full-length programmes and clips. It will also include episodes of the STV drama 'High Road' and music programme, 'Thingummyjig', as well as selected highlights of historic Scottish football matches.

The TV Shows section of YouTube now includes more than 5,000 hours of full-length programming from content partners.

Matt Brittin, UK managing director for Google, YouTube's owner, said: "We’re delighted to be teaming up with another major broadcaster that has decided to make their content available to the YouTube community.

"TV fans are watching ever more programmes online, and we look forward to working with STV to help them reach additional viewers for their new programmes, as well as making their incredible archive widely available."

The STV Player, which delivers on-demand free STV catch-up services, launched in July 2009. STV currently delivers around 800,000 video streams per month.
