Scarlett Johansson replaces Penelope Cruz as face of Mango

LONDON - Scarlett Johansson is to appear in ads for Barcelona-based high street chain Mango, replacing Spanish actress Penelope Cruz who has been employed by the fashion retailer for the past four seasons.

Johansson will feature in Mango's autumn/winter 2009 advertising campaign which will roll out globally. The retail chain has about 1,200 locations in 92 countries, with around 20 in the UK.

Mango said Johansson was selected for "her extraordinary personality, which embodies the ideal of the urban independent and cosmopolitan woman Mango wishes to dress".

Johansson recently co-starred with Cruz in Woody Allen's 'Vicky Christina Barcelona'.

Images for the upcoming campaign were shot in Los Angeles by Italian photographer Mario Sorrenti, best known for his provocative nude photoshoot with Kate Moss for Vogue in the early 90s.

Mango has not confirmed a launch date for the collection.

The American actress joins a select list of previous Mango models, including Milla Jovovich, Lizzy Jagger, Karolina Kurkova, Naomi Campbell, Eva Herzigova, Ines Sastre, Claudia Schiffer, Christy Turlington and Diane Kruger.
