Save the Children links donors to beneficiaries

Save the Children, the international children's charity, is trialling new web technology in its largest ever global campaign.

The campaign to help children living in Kroo Bay, Sierra Leone, will have an online presence from the local clinic.

For the first time, UK visitors to www.savethechildren.org.uk will be able to get to know the community that will benefit from their donations, via the internet.

Users can log on to a website that connects them directly with children living in Kroo Bay, or choose to provide a child with a simple life-saving solution just by sending a text donation.

The website will allow users to experience what life is like for the 4,000 children living in the slum. Visitors will be able to navigate around 360-degree images of the site, and catch up with the latest local news through regular 'webisodes'.

According to Save the Children, the slum community of Kroo Bay is the toughest place in the world for children to grow up, with one in four dying before their fifth birthday.

The website goes live as Save the Children launches its three-year global campaign, which aims to reduce the number of children around the world who die before their fifth birthday.
