The French company said that the war and SARS did not significantly affect revenues at its transport division, which includes airport advertising, but that it expects the second quarter to be affected -- particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.
Jean-Charles Decaux, chairman and co-chief executive, said: "Although the SARS disease did not significantly affect transport in the first quarter, we expect a negative impact in the second quarter, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, which will slow the recovery in the division."
Revenue for the transport division fell by 2.8% to €64.7m, although taking into account currency changes, JCDecaux said that organic revenue growth was 8.9% for the period. Double-digit organic growth was achieved in France, Italy, Spain, Sweden and the US.
Billboard was up by 3.8% to €96.7m, while street furniture fell by 3.7% to €191.5m.
Looking forward, Decaux said: "The advertising market as a whole remains challenging with no improvement in short-term visibility, however we currently expect organic revenues for the first half to be slightly ahead of the corresponding period in 2002."
