Sainsbury's trials instant coupon system

LONDON - Sainsbury’s has handed Catalina Marketing a brief to deliver targeted customer communications at the store's checkouts.

The initiative will initially be trialled in Sainsbury’s stores - Tamworth, Leicester, Blackheath and Coventry - in the first quarter of 2008. All customers will be able to receive communications while Nectar card holders will be able to receive additional offers.

The technology will allows coupons to be instantly targeted at customers on the basis on what is in their shopping basket for that shop.

The Sainsbury's system is similar to Somerfield’s operation, which Catalina also runs, which offers customers coupons at the checkout.
