Rugby World Cup signs up French recruitment firm as sponsor

LONDON - French recruitment company Vediorbis has signed up as the tournament sponsor of the 2007 Rugby World Cup, which takes place in France.

Although the tournament does not kick off until September next year, the International Rugby Board has already sold the six global sponsorship packages, which have been taken up by Visa International, EDF, Peugeot, GMF, Societe General and SNCF. Heineken has signed up as the official beer of the tournament.

It is hoped that sponsorships and sale of TV rights will bring in at least 拢60m. ITV Sport has the UK television rights, after signing a deal worth an estimated 拢40m ahead of the 2003 cup, hosted by Australia and won by England.

Japan is the most recent country to qualify for the 2007 tournament, while Spain's defeat of the Netherlands earlier this month has set it up for a playoff against Germany.

Syd Millar, chairman of Rugby World Cup, said: "The tournament in France is on track to be the most successful in Rugby World Cup history. With just under 18 months to go until the first match kicks off in Paris, ticket sales have passed the 850,000 mark and all six global partnership packages have been sold."

Vediorbis has previously sponsored international sporting events including the 1968 Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble and the 1992 games, hosted by Albertville.
